An edge bander is used to permanently fix a prepared moulding to board, for example, kitchen benches or cabinets.

Stability:

Is the machine stable and unlikely to move during operation?

   

Front guard:

Does the fixed or interlocked guard on the front of the machine prevent access to the trimming saws, pressure rollers, hot glue nozzles etc?

If the front guard is interlocked, is it rated to the correct category (per AS 4024.1)?

The guard for the gluing and machining areas is closed?

   

Drive system guard:

Are the main drive shafts enclosed in fixed guarding?

Is fixed guarding provided at any other chain and sprocket drives from the back and front of the machine?

   

Support stand:

Is there a support stand or conveyor to reduce manual handling for large pieces of board passing through the machine?     

Operating controls:

Are the operating controls easily accessible to the operator?

Do the operating controls prevent accidental start-up?

Are the control functions clearly marked?

   
Emergency stop: 

Is there an emergency stop of the mushroom-headed type (or equivalent)?

Is the emergency stop easily accessible and labelled?

Are the stop/start buttons, emergency stop buttons, and safety bars all operating effectively?

   

Equipment isolation:

Are there systems in place for the machine to be isolated?

Work space:

Is there a clear work space around the machine?

Is the support conveyor set at the correct width?

   

Lighting:

Is the general and task lighting adequate?

   

Airborne contaminants:

Is fume and dust extraction fitted correctly and maintained?

Is the fume and dust extraction system turned on during work hours?

   

Noise:

Has the use of sound absorbing material been considered to reduce noise levels?

   

Housekeeping:

Is the floor area regularly cleaned, and all off-cuts and other debris removed?

   

Safe, firm, foothold:

Does the floor surface around the machine provide a safe, firm foothold?

   
Supervision

Training:

Are all operators of this machine trained and experienced, and also instructed and supervised by a competent person when undergoing training?

   

PPE:
