2026 HSR Refresher Training Day – privacy collection notice
How we handle your personal information when you submit your expression of interest to attend the 2026 HSR Refresher Training Day run by SafeWork NSW and Unions NSW.
1. Who we are
Your information is being collected by the SafeWork NSW Agency (SafeWork NSW), the NSW Work Health and Safety Regulator. SafeWork NSW is the primary work health and safety regulator in New South Wales. It operates under the legislative mandate of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) and is responsible for engaging with the NSW community to prevent work-related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses and securing compliance with work health and safety laws. On 1 July 2025, it was formally established as a stand-alone regulator under the Work Health and Safety Amendment (Standalone Regulator) Act 2025.
2. Why we collect your personal information
SafeWork NSW is collecting your personal information for the purposes of reviewing your current status as an elected Health and Safety Representative (HSR) or Deputy HSR at your workplace, processing registrations for the 2026 HSR Refresher Training Day, communicating with you about the event and relevant information related to the role of HSRs, and communicating with you about future HSR related events.
3. The kinds of personal information we collect
We may collect the following information:
- Your full name and contact details (including your email address)
- The name of your current employer
- Your current workplace address
- Information about your status as a Union Member and relevant Union, if applicable
- Information about your status as a Health and Safety Representative
At the event, we may take photographs or video on the day to be used in promotion of the event and future iterations of the event. Once registered, you will be asked at that time whether or not you consent to having your image taken in any way.
4. Failure to provide information
Your information is provided voluntarily however if you choose not to provide your information, we may be unable to register you for the 2026 HSR Refresher Training Day.
5. How we may use this information
We may use the information to review your status as an elected Health and Safety Representative in NSW and to officially register you for the event. We may also use the information for internal administrative purposes, including liaising with you in relation to your application, and in relation to compliance, investigations, and enforcement of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017.
We may also use the information to provide you with further details about the event, communicate information relevant to HSRs, contact you about evaluations related to the event, and communicate with you about future HSR related opportunities.
The information will also be used to analyse the geographical distribution of HSRs in NSW allowing SafeWork NSW to better allocate future resourcing for HSRs throughout the state.
For the purposes of evaluative reporting, the information will be deidentified to protect the privacy of applicants and participants.
Any images or video taken may be used for promotion of the event after the event has taken place, or for promotion of future iterations of the event.
6. Who we may share your information with
This information is shared with Unions NSW and associated Unions in accordance with their accreditation as trainers through the Training, Accreditation and Compliance Services. The details you share will be provided to Unions NSW for the purposes of registration and on the day check in. Your details will only be shared with associated Unions if you are a member of the Unions, noting your details will only be shared with your specific union.
Associated Unions include Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union, Australian Salaried Medical Officers Federation, Australian Services Union, NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association, NSW Teachers Federation Branch, Public Service Association, and Transport Workers’ Union of NSW.
We will not disclose your information to anybody else unless we are authorised or permitted to do so by law or where you have given consent. For further information, please see our Privacy Statement.
7. Protecting your information
We will store, manage, and dispose of your information in accordance with the provisions of the PPIP Act and HRIP Acts, and we will only keep information for as long as we need it to fulfil the purposes we collected it for. After which, the information will be disposed of securely in accordance with the State Records Act 1998 and any other applicable legislation.
