October is National Safe Work Month
A productive, healthy and safe workplace shows that everyone shares common values that make worker health and safety a priority.
The theme for Safe Work Month this year was "know safety, work safely".
Workplaces were encouraged to make a pledge to maintain safety at the forefront of everyone's mind by:
- training and supervising workers and monitoring their safety
- reviewing and continually improving consultation procedures
- establishing an accredited work health and safety management system
- introducing specific health-related programs that are holistic and promote physical and mental wellbeing
- supporting culturally and linguistically diverse workers by offering additional resources in their preferred language.
During the month of October, workplaces were encouraged to host a ‘SafeTea’ chat where teams could 'grab a cuppa' and have an informal conversation about health and safety. Show your workplace safety commitment all year round by having regular check ins and conversations about safety and wellbeing.
If you missed out, visit the Safe Work Month page where you can find a range of tools and resources to assist your workplace conversations. You can also register for upcoming events on a range of topics, such as psychosocial hazards, construction supervision, summertime hazards, manual handling and more.
