On 29 March 2018, a worker suffered serious injuries when he was struck in the right eye by a piece of waste metal mesh offcut which bounced up when a large beam hit the floor, at Queanbeyan.
After a SafeWork NSW investigation, the corporate defendant, Capital Precast & Drainage Pty Ltd, was charged with a breach of section 32/19(1) and section 38(1) of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (the Act), and the director, Victor Forbes, was charged with a breach of section 32/27 of the Act.
On 16 September 2021, the defendants were convicted and fined by the Local Court. The corporate defendant was fined $36,000 under section 32/19(1) and $4,800 under section 38(1) of the Act, and the director was fined $12,000 in relation to his offence.
