SafeWork NSW is collaborating with Farmsafe Australia to promote the AgCard in NSW.
The AgCard is a pre-farm-employment training program designed to help farm employers and employees identify and manage workplace health and safety risks.
By participating in this pilot program, you can:
- learn how to identify and manage workplace hazards and risks on farms, and
- help SafeWork NSW improve health and safety outcomes across the agricultural sector.
We look forward to working with you to improve farm safety and reduce the number of injuries and fatalities.
How to get involved
Step 1: Register
Complete the registration form by providing your details.
Register for farm safety training
Step 2: Receive your training link
Once registered, you will receive an email containing a link to access the free AgCard training.
Step 3: Complete the free training
The course is easy to complete. Follow the link provided in your email and complete the training at a time that suits you. Please set aside two hours to complete the training in full.
Once you have completed the training, a Farmsafe Australia’s AgCard Certificate of Completion will be emailed so you can include this as part of your resume.
Step 4: Follow-up check-in
Approximately three weeks after registration, we will contact you via email to confirm whether you have completed the training.
Step 5: Evaluation survey
After completing the training, you will be invited to take part in a short follow-up survey (three months after registration).
The survey will take approximately 10 minutes and will ask for your feedback and insights regarding:
- your overall experience with the training
- what information or resources you found most valuable
- knowledge or skills you gained
- , and
- barriers to implementing safety improvements.
Your feedback is an important part of this pilot and will help inform future farm safety education programs.
Why the pilot is needed
Agriculture remains one of NSW’s most hazardous industries, accounting for around one in five workplace deaths. Over the past decade, there have been more than:
- 92 worker fatalities
- 28,000 workers' compensation claims, and
- over $850 million paid in compensation.
- aims to engage up to 1,000 agricultural workers, and
- will be evaluated to assess its effectiveness and industry uptake.
How the pilot was developed
Over the past three years, SafeWork NSW has held Agricultural Roundtables with key industry representatives, farmers and government agencies to identify ways to improve safety outcomes across the sector.
One commitment arising from the Roundtables was to provide farm workers with free, accessible, foundational safety training. This 12-month pilot responds to that commitment.
By building safety awareness, knowledge and confidence, AgCard supports safer workplaces and improved safety outcomes across the agricultural industry.
