SafeWork NSW received a notification about the illegal dumping of approximately 60 cubic metres of asbestos-containing material at a rural property. Inspectors from SafeWork NSW, Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and the local Council investigated and traced the material back to a local demolition site.
Further enquiries revealed that the contractor responsible for the demolition did not hold a licence to remove asbestos or conduct demolition work in NSW. Unlicensed asbestos removal and demolition activity poses serious health risks to workers and the community and can result in significant financial costs to property owners.
