WorkCover is bringing its Safer Communities, Safer Towns event to Cessnock and Kurri Kurri to provide free work health and safety advice to the community.

The WorkCover team will be in town and the surrounding area on Tuesday, 10 February and Wednesday, 11 February from 8.30am to 4.30pm. Presentations will also take place each day at 9.30am and 3pm.

WorkCover Hunter Hub Team Coordinator Lisa Foley said the visit was a fantastic window of opportunity for local small businesses, managers, workers and the community to access the latest safety and return to work advice.

“Our staff will be providing free practical advice on how work health and safety laws, licensing changes, workers compensation and recover at work programs affect small businesses,” Ms Foley said.

“We will also distribute small business safety information containing the latest information on how to keep a workplace as safe as possible.

“All small businesses that speak to us may also be eligible for a rebate of up to $500 through our Small Business Rebate Program which can be used to purchase and install safety improvements.”

Ms Foley added that a WorkCover inspector would also be available to provide free information advisory visits to workplaces.

“During a visit the inspector will provide free practical advice on how to make the workplace safer,” she said.

“We look forward to meeting local businesses and workers next week and explaining how we can help make them safer.”

The two-day event is a joint collaboration with the Cessnock Economic and Innovation Zone.

WorkCover will be located at the Hunter Valley Visitor Centre, 455 Wine Country Drive, Pokolbin 2320 next Tuesday and Wednesday from 8.30am to 4.30pm. Presentations will be held at 9.30 am and 3pm both days.
