Safety Return to Work & Support NSW CEO Vivek Bhatia today announced three key senior management appointments as part of a more commercial focus for its workers compensation, insurance, and information technology operations.

The insurance function has now been separated into two parts – WorkCover Insurance, which provides protection for more than 266,000 employers and 3.1 million workers across the State; and Workers Compensation Insurance Regulation, which regulates WorkCover Insurance as well as all self and specialised insurers in NSW.

Caroline Walsh has assumed the role of Executive Director Workers Compensation Insurance Regulation, and John Nagle is now the Executive Director of WorkCover Insurance.

"Caroline will provide effective regulation of the State's workers compensation insurers, including WorkCover Insurance, which will provide a clearer distinction between the insurance and regulatory functions, and ensure greater transparency," Mr Bhatia said.

"John's appointment will help to build the capability and commercial focus of WorkCover Insurance, which writes$2.5 billion in premiums, manages more than $16.9 billion in assets and manages claims liabilities of $14.4 billion.

"A large scale ICT strategic agenda lies in front of SRWS, which will be driven by Stuart Bremner, who has been appointed to the role of Chief Information Officer. He will oversee the crucial development of the organisation's information and communications technology.

"These appointments will strengthen our existing leadership team and better position the organisation as it promotes productive, healthy and safe workplaces, and supports those returning to work, and those with serious injuries."

John Nagle brings more than 35 years of insurance experience in Australia and New Zealand to his role. Most recently he was the Chief Executive of Lumley Insurance, the intermediated insurance operation of Wesfarmers Insurance. Prior to that he was the Executive General Manager of Corporate & Specialty at Vero Insurance (Suncorp).

Caroline Walsh has held a number of senior positions with the federal safety and workers compensation regulator Comcare in the past eight years, including as General Manger Insurance, General Managers Claims Management Support, General Manager Recovery and Support Services and Chief Operating Officer. Caroline also has a background in public policy and industrial relations, and held senior policy roles at the federal Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Stuart Bremner oversaw the delivery of a new technology platform for Kiwibank's insurance business in his most recent role as their General Manager, Wealth & Insurance. Previous to that role, he assessed, procured and implemented a new insurance platform as General Manager for ASB Investments.
