SafeWork NSW is hosting a free event next week for small businesses in Ballina to learn more about improving work health and safety and recovery at work practices.

SafeWork NSW District Coordinator Paul Irwin says the event - supported by Ballina and Northern Rivers Business Chambers and North Coast Safety Network, is an opportunity for local small businesses to develop practical solutions to work health and safety, injury management and recovery at work.

“Businesses attending the forum will be able to network with other local employers to share their achievements and challenges and examine work health and safety issues specific to running a small operation,” Mr Irwin said.

The free forum will include workshops on:

  • what to do when a worker is injured
  • local injury hotspots
  • avoiding workplace incidents
  • designing a sustainable recovery at work plan

“Workplace injuries impact the whole community. During the last three years in the northern rivers region there were more than 7,500 claims costing the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme more than $50 million,” Mr Irwin said.

Futurist Tim Longhurst will be a guest speaker at the event and will discuss local business trends and their impact on work health and safety.

“The regional safety forum is part of the State government’s commitment to provide practical help for small employers with their workplace safety and recovery at work needs,” Mr Irwin said.

“Businesses who attend can also learn more about their eligibility for a $500 SafeWork NSW safety rebate.

“We all want our family members to arrive home safely at the end of the day and I would encourage all local businesses to attend and learn how to make their workplaces both safer and more productive,” Mr Irwin said.

The free forum will be held on Thursday, April 7 at the Quality Hotel Ballina Beach Resort from 11am-2pm.

Bookings are essential. Register online at stickytickets.com and search for ‘Ballina Forum’.
