On 7 December 2017, a worker was using a pump to transfer glacial acetic acid when the hose dislodged from the pump assembly and he was sprayed with hazardous chemical, causing serious injury, at Dubbo.
After a SafeWork NSW investigation, the defendant, Peter Strahorn, was charged with a breach of section 32/27(1) of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
On 29 January 2020, the defendant was convicted by the Local Court and fined $40,000.
The defendant appealed the severity of the Judgment to the District Court and on 24 September 2020 the Court allowed the appeal and imposed a reduced fine of $12,500.
