Chiew Meng Ng

Between February 2016 and 7 June 2017 SafeWork identified that a development undergoing construction at Chester Hill had failed to address work health and safety issues arising from incomplete scaffolding, poor housekeeping and inadequate site security.

After a SafeWork NSW investigation, the defendant, Chiew Meng Ng, was charged with three breaches of section 33/27(1) of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

On 28 November 2018, the defendant was convicted by the Local Court and fined a total of $42,500.

PIA Constructions and Engineering Pty Ltd

After a SafeWork NSW investigation, the defendant, PIA Constructions and Engineering Pty Ltd, pleaded guilty to a total of nine offences under section 33/19(1), section 22/19(2) and section 33/20(2) of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

On 28 November 2018, the defendant was convicted by the Local Court and fined a total of $160,000 under section 19(1), a total of $45,000 under section 19(2) and $5000 under section 20(2) of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

Houssam Annous

On 31 January 2016, a worker was fatally injured when the asbestos roof sheeting of the warehouse he was working on broke, causing him to fall approximately 8.7 metres to the ground at Greenacre.

After a SafeWork NSW investigation, the defendant, Houssam Annous, was charged with a breach of section 32/27(1) of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

On 23 November 2018, the defendant was convicted by the District Court and fined $7,500.

Opcon Plumbing Pty Ltd
