On 29 October 2010 a worker suffered traumatic amputation of his left leg when it was drawn into the pinch point between the unguarded winching spool and supporting ‘A’ frame on a winch platform.

After a WorkCover investigation the defendant, Ausgrid (formerly known as EnergyAustralia), was charged with a breach of section 8(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000.

On 28 July 2014 the defendant was convicted by the District Court and fined $100,000.

Technical and Further Education Commission (also known as TAFE Commission)

On 24 March 2009, an 18 year old student in a jillaroo/jackaroo training course run by TAFE sustained fatal injuries when she fell or was thrown from a horse during riding lessons as part of the course. The horse was a former racehorse and unsuitable for use by beginner riders.

After a WorkCover investigation the defendant, TAFE Commission, was charged with a breach of Section 8 (2) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000.

On 14 July 2014 the defendant was convicted by the District Court and fined $300,000.

Zoneridge Pty Ltd

On 27 July 2010 a worker was injured when a partially constructed steel structure collapsed.

After a WorkCover investigation the defendant, Zoneridge Pty Ltd, was charged with breaches of section 8(1) and 8(2) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000.

On 7 July 2014 the defendant was convicted by the District Court and fined $100,000.
