P&M Quality Smallgoods Pty Ltd

11 October 2013

On 6 February 2010 a worker sustained superficial burns when he cut through a butane gas line, causing a fire, whilst cutting part of a floor.

After a WorkCover investigation the defendant P&M Quality Smallgoods Pty Ltd was charged with a breach of section 10(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000.

On 11 October 2013 the defendant was convicted by the Court and fined $110,000. You can read the judgment.

On 20 October 2009 a worker sustained amputation of his right little finger and crush injuries to two other fingers when his hand was caught in the unguarded nip point of a large printing press.

After a WorkCover investigation the defendant J I T Offset Pty Ltd was charged with a breach of section 8(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000.

On 10 October 2013 the defendant was convicted by the Court and fined $90,000. You can read the judgment.

Zac’s Packs Pty Ltd,  Harold Ernest Schwarz  and Harry Schwarz Consulting Pty Ltd were also charged and convicted in relation to this workplace incident.

On 13 February 2007, a worker sustained crush injuries to his right foot resulting in partial amputation when his foot was caught in an unguarded chain and sprocket drive of a conveyor unit.

After a WorkCover investigation the defendant Big River Timbers (Veneer) Pty Ltd was charged with a breach of section 8(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000.

On 24 September 2013 the defendant was convicted by the Court and fined $120,000. You can read the judgment.
