SafeWork Advisory Council membership applications

1. Who we are

Your information is being collected by SafeWork NSW Agency, the NSW Work Health and Safety Regulator. We give priority to protecting the privacy of your personal information, in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act).

2. Why we collect your information

We are collecting your personal information as part of the application process for potential members of the SafeWork Advisory Council (Advisory Council). This information will be used to undertake a process to assess suitability to serve as a member of the Advisory Council. If appointed, this information may be used to contact you regarding Advisory Council matters.

3. The kinds of information we collect

  • your full name, title, year of birth, residential suburb and postcode,
  • your contact details, including phone number and email address,
  • a current CV,
  • professional references,
  • if you are a Government Sector Employee,
  • if you are on the NSW Electoral Commission Lobbyist Register,
  • your gender, if you are a person with a disability, if you identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, or if you identify as a culturally and/or linguistically diverse individual (this information is not compulsory to provide).

4. Non-provision of information and consent

Your information is provided voluntarily. However, please be advised that if you choose not to provide your information, we may be unable to progress your application/appointment to the Advisory Council.

5. How we may use this information

We may use the information collected in the following ways:

  • for internal administrative purposes, including liaising with you in relation to your potential appointment to the Advisory Council,
  • for appointment recommendation processes, including submission to the Office of the Minister for Work Health and Safety and the NSW Cabinet, and
  • any other directly related purposes.

6. Who we may share your information with

We may share your information with the following groups:

  • the NSW Cabinet, whose approval is required for all inaugural appointments to boards, committees and councils within NSW,
  • the Minister for Work Health and Safety (Minister Sophie Cotsis), as the appropriate delegation to approve appointments to the Advisory Council,
  • the SafeWork NSW Commissioner, the head of SafeWork NSW, who will be involved in the assessment, appointment and induction process for all members of the Advisory Council,
  • other select SafeWork NSW staff forming part of the application assessment panel, and
  • the SafeWork NSW Governance & Assurance Director, and the SafeWork NSW Ministerial, Executive and Parliamentary Services Team who perform the Secretariat function of the Advisory Council.

We will not disclose your information to anybody else unless we are authorised or permitted to do so by law or where you have given consent. For further information, please see our privacy statement.

7. Protecting your information

We will store, manage, and dispose of your information in accordance with the provisions of the PPIP Act, and we will only keep information for as long as we need it to fulfil the purposes we collected it for. Your information will be held by this agency for the duration of the appointment process and, if appointed, your tenure as a member of the SafeWork Advisory Council. After which, the information will be disposed of securely in accordance with the State Records Act 1998 and any other applicable legislation.
